Anthropic has launched Claude Pro, a subscription-based AI assistant that functions similarly to the widely known AI assistant, ChatGPT. Available at $20/month in the United States, Claude Pro promises five-times-higher usage limits, priority access, and early access to new features. It works as a conversational interface for the Claude 2 AI language model. One major advantage of Claude over its rival, ChatGPT, is its higher processing capacity, thanks to a 100,000-token context window that allows it to process about 75,000 words at once. This allows Claude to maintain longer conversations without losing the context.
Despite its impressive features, Claude Pro isn’t without its challenges. Some users have reported experiencing 'hallucinations', where Claude generates incorrect or unrelated information. In one notable incident, a user's transcript was inaccurately processed when controversial topics appeared in the conversation, resulting in deletion of the entire transcript. The '5x more usage' claim by Anthropic for Claude Pro is also noted to be not clearly defined. However, Anthropic states usage limits are necessary as running an AI model with a 100,000-token context limit is computationally expensive.
While AI models like Claude have demonstrated varied potential, their reliability can be a cause for concern. Despite this, there has been positive feedback about Claude, particularly in its ability to process large documents and its convenience in online form. Anthropic also released Claude Instant 1.2, a cheaper and faster version of Claude available through an API, but it offers less functionality compared to Claude 2.
