Artificial intelligence (AI) technologies have the potential to significantly impact various aspects of society, including commerce, health, transportation, cybersecurity, and the environment. However, these technologies also pose unique risks that can negatively affect individuals, groups, and communities. The AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF) aims to help organizations manage these risks and promote responsible development and use of AI systems.

The AI RMF emphasizes human centricity, social responsibility, and sustainability, and is designed to be voluntary, rights-preserving, non-sector-specific, and use-case agnostic. The framework comprises two parts: Part 1 discusses how organizations can frame AI-related risks, and Part 2 outlines the "Core" of the framework, which includes four specific functions (GOVERN, MAP, MEASURE, and MANAGE) to address AI system risks in practice. To ensure continued relevance, the AI RMF will be regularly updated based on evolving technology, global standards, and community feedback. Through this framework, organizations and individuals can work towards fostering trustworthiness, accountability, and responsible deployment of AI systems.
